The Hope Center for Advanced Veterinary Medicine has paid internship openings for Veterinary Technician Students and we are currently accepting applications for next year’s class. The internship will rotate students through several different specialty services including Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Laboratory, and Emergency. The internship program plays a large role in The Hope Center’s teaching and mentoring programs which enables technician students to experience a wide range of what the veterinary technician profession has to offer. Applicants must be motivated professionals who enjoy challenging cases and learning new skills in a fun, fast-paced working environment.The Hope Center for Advanced Veterinary Medicine is an AAHA recognized Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center located in the heart of Vienna, VA. Long recognized as the leader in emergency medicine for Northern Virginia, The Hope Center maintains a close working relationship with a large number of primary veterinary hospitals in the area.

Externs rotating through the Hope Center will spend their time in the emergency room. We ask that they come in on the nights and weekends, to fully maximize their learning experience. Our externs will obtain a history and perform and physical exam from new patients. With the assistance of the veterinarians on duty, the externs will develop a set of differential diagnoses, recommended diagnostics and therapeutics, and may create a treatment sheet. The externs then can follow the progression of the case as the evening and the week progresses. Although externs cannot perform procedures, we encourage them to watch and assist in procedures and surgeries whenever possible.We boast a warm, friendly, team atmosphere with a busy caseload conducive to learning thorough diagnostics and treatments. The ER service works closely with a number of specialty departments within the building: Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Cardiology, Neurology, and Surgery.
Externs will have the ability to learn from the following:
- Doppler/Cardell NIBP
- Pulse Oximetry
- MRI (off site)
- CT Scanner

The Hope Center for Advanced Veterinary Medicine is located in thriving Vienna less than 15 miles from Washington, D.C., a city of national history, culture, parks and outdoor recreation, and exciting nightlife. The Hope Center does offer a 1-year rotating internship, and a visit to the Hope Center prior to the match is highly recommended.

The Hope Center participates in the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians’ Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program. The Matching program facilitates a pairing between newly graduated veterinarians and hospitals nationwide.A leader in veterinary emergency medicine for more than 30 years, The Hope Center for Advanced Veterinary Medicine is the first choice of more than 60 area veterinarians for emergency-care referrals in the Northern Virginia area. They rely on the training and experience of The Hope Center staff and our fully state-of-the-art facility to meet the needs of their patients. In addition to nine emergency clinicians, our center houses full time specialists in Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Surgery(VSC), Neurology (VSC), and Cardiology (CVCA).

Primary case responsibility and many opportunities to learn specialized surgeries and emergency procedures is given to interns and mentorship from the emergency clinicians and specialists is always on hand. Interns will rotate through Emergency, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Cardiology, Neurology, and Surgery. Mentorship is always available and, unlike the majority of internships, overnight emergency shifts are always staffed with at least one seasoned emergency veterinarians. Interns are never alone on their overnights. The internship is ideal for those seeking practical experience and in-depth training their first year as a veterinarian whether interested in pursuing a residency or going on to private practice. The Hope Center is dedicated to making the internship as valuable to the interns as they are to us. We encourage those individuals with the motivation to enrich their knowledge and acquire valuable skills in a welcoming atmosphere to visit the staff and the hospital. Included in the learning experience will be teaching rounds, journal club rounds, and morbidity and mortality rounds.

Our staff is composed of veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians and assistants who bring to our patients and their families the finest in medical training and unparalleled experience in veterinary medicine. The Hope Center also boasts a veterinary technician internship program aimed at training the highest skilled veterinary technicians crucial to a high volume ICU.
Among the benefits package, we will offer coverage of liability insurance, veterinary licensure and a health insurance/LT disability package.
