What is a Board-Certified Veterinary Radiologist?
A board-certified radiologist is a veterinarian who has trained an additional 3-4 years after graduating from veterinary school, and has passed multiple certification examinations, giving them specialist status as an ACVR Diplomate.
These doctors have received advanced training in diagnostic imaging and are experts in interpreting radiographs (x-rays), ultrasound, computed tomography (CT or CAT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluoroscopy, and nuclear scintigraphy studies in animals.
Radiology is an essential, non-invasive part of many medical workups in animals, from a chest x-ray to an abdominal ultrasound. Radiologists are part of the team of veterinary professionals that contribute to an animal’s care. Veterinary Radiologists are available to support your primary care veterinarian in performing ultrasounds and interpreting imaging studies.
